How Does It Work?

With traditional dialup methods, the text and graphics that make up web pages get sent from the server to you over your phone line. Because of the large amount of data required to be sent, this process can be painfully slow, especially in rural areas with old phone lines. SlipStream's MegaBoost Accelerator compresses this data using a proprietary technology, and sends it over your existing dialup phone line. This compression process allows a smaller amount of data to be sent making the download time of your web pages and your online experience that much faster.

What Get's Accelerated?

To achieve the fastest web and email acceleration available, proprietary lossless compression is applied to text, html, xml, javascript and style sheets. Proprietary image compression is applied to gif images, jpeg images and Flash content. The amount of acceleration applied to images is adjustable, too. SlipStream also accelerates email traffic, and is compatible with any POP3/SMTP client, including Outlook Express, Eudora and Netscape Mail. SlipStream MegaBoost Accelerator will not currently accelerate file downloads such as music files, software, Microsoft Updates, antivirus definitions, or streaming video or audio media.

SlipStream MegaBoost Accelerator also offers additional value-added services to speeding up your web and email usage:

• Pop-Up Blocker - block annoying pop-up advertisements while surfing!

  SlipStream MegaBoost Accelerator can prevent pop-up windows and floating flash advertisements from appearing while you browse the Internet. This feature is enabled by default, and no user-intervention is required. However, you can also easily disable this features at any time. SlipStream MegaBoost Accelerator allows you to specify a "White List" of sites where pop-ups will not be blocked and you can also see a list of all pop-ups that were blocked.

• Banner-Ad Blocking - Stop the ads, and surf faster!

  SlipStream MegaBoost Accelerator can block many graphical advertisements that appear on web pages (i.e. ad banners). Enabling this feature will prevent these ads from being downloaded and displayed in your browser, reducing download time.

• Integrated Diagnostic Support Tool

What systems is it compatible with?

SlipStream MegaBoost Accelerator offers the most extensive compatibility. SlipStream works with Internet Explorer 4.0 (or later), Netscape Communicator 4.0 (or later), Firefox 0.7 (and later) and any web browser that allows you to specify an HTTP proxy. (Consult your browser's documentation for additional information.) SlipStream supports Windows (95/98, ME, 2000, NT, XP and Vista).
