How do we compare to the others? AOL has a new Safety and Security Center offering pretty much the same features as the software listed on this page. One major difference: AOL requires you to drop some of your defenses to use it. This graphic shows the message that displays on the AOL Safety and Security Center page when you visit with JavaScript disabled. ![]() Why is this bad? JavaScript is used to execute code on your computer. It can be used to download and install spyware and viruses. Based on years of daily Internet usage, our computers with JavaScript enabled collect at least 10 times more spyware and viruses than those with JavaScript disabled. We highly recommend disabling JavaScript for general surfing. How? This can be easily accomplished by setting your Internet Zone security to "High." For sites that you trust and require JavaScript, add those sites to your Trusted Zone. Firefox users can install the NoScript Extension. ![]() How about Earthlink? Their new Protection Control Center offers the same group of tools as US Netizen has listed on this page. |
