Error 692  If Quicken 2000 is installed it will cause a modem error of 692. You may also see that reinstalling the modem will fix the problem till you reboot. The Fix is to remove the Download manager feature from Quicken.
The trick to perform this is Hidden.
You will need to select the menu option, edit, select internet options, it should pop up a form, select the connection tab, then hold SHIFT+ALT+DOLLAR SIGN "$", it will ask a question about disabling the background download manager, select the yes button.
Then close Quicken, open the device manager and remove the modem and reboot the machine to reload the modem drivers. --OR-- To disable Quicken Download Manager permanently, use the following procedure. This will disable background downloading for all sessions until the Quicken Download Manager is specifically re-enabled. Open the Quicken program.
In Quicken 99, point to Internet Connection on the Online menu, and choose Options.
In Quicken 2000 and 2001, point to Options on the Edit menu and select Internet Options.
This opens the Internet Connection Options window.
In the Internet Connection Options window, check the Don't use background downloading option.
Click OK.
Close the Quicken program.
Restart the computer. Check the status area of the Windows taskbar to make sure the red Q icon is not there. There are several reasons that this can happen.  If someone picks up a telephone in your house and starts to dial while you are on line, you will likley be disconnected causing this error to appear.  Our server employes an idle timeout to prevent users from accidentally staying connected when they are not using the service.    You may have been reading and this was interpreted as idle time and you were disconnected by the server.  This error can appear after being disconnected for no apparent reason.  Random errors do occur and are often caused by poor line quality, static electricity, or electrical storms.
